About

Siân Lister is a young, fresh photographer; based in the South West of England, in Dorchester, Dorset.

Photography has always been a passion of Siân’s, and she has taken photographs from a young age. She received her first digital camera in late 2005, and started taking photographs of everything around her; mainly the local countryside and nature surrounding her home. She spent the whole of the next year perfecting and developing her own unique style, which can be easily recognised by the bold colours and shapes that often feature in her photographs.

In 2007, she ventured into portraiture, and obtained her first achievement; showing a five piece self portrait series, as part of an exhibition hosted by MIND in London. The exhibition lasted a week, and Siân’s work was shown to the public throughout.

Siân continued to perfect her style of photography, and in 2008 started selling her artwork in the form of prints and greetings cards. They proved popular, which was fantastic motivation to produce new work for the future. Still working with portraiture, Siân was given information on a local photographic competition, to depict “Women and Food”. She entered a three piece series, and won the competition with her image titled “Maybe Just One…”.

Later in the year, Siân entered a photographic competition, hosted by Weymouth & Portland Borough Council. The theme was “Waterbased Weymouth & Portland”, and she won first prize with her image titled “Sailing In Weymouth”.

In September 2009, Siân hosted her first solo exhibition, at Strangways Hall in Abbotsbury. She displayed approximately 50 prints of her finest floral and landscape photographs, along with greetings cards and further information about herself. The exhibition lasted for one day and attracted a variety of visitors.

September 2010 brought a new exhibition; the Young Artists Exhibition, which spanned over two days. This was hosted by Katie May at Cerne Abbas Village Hall, and featured five different artists from the area.

Later in the year, Siân photographed a group of young women for a charity calendar, to raise money for Children In Need. The theme followed a ‘Calendar Girls’ style, and all of the participants were photographed completely naked, in every day situations. The calendar, to date, has raised in the region of £1,000 for the charity.

April 2011 gave Siân the opportunity to be part of another exhibition, hosted by Katie May, again at Cerne Abbas Village Hall. The exhibition featured a selection of artists, including painter Mia Bradbury. This was followed in October, by a stall at the Dorchester Moose Autumn Fayre, which raised money for local causes.

A new year brought on new challenges, and Siân completed a course with The Open University, studying Digital Photography T189, making new friends along the way. Siân also had the opportunity to take part in the Osmington Village Hall Crafts Fayre on a couple of occasions, selling a wide selection of photographic greetings cards.

The year of 2012 ended well; having entered a competition hosted by the Dorset Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Siân placed runner up with her photograph “Sepulchre”.

At present, Siân is available for commission work, and is accepting requests for photographs.
